A man from Kazomba area in Solwezi District, North-Western Province, identified only as Raphael, is nursing serious head injuries after allegedly being attacked and abandoned in the bush by three suspected armed robbers.

Police reportedly found him five days ago after he was struck three times on the head with a pick handle.

North-Western Province Commissioner of Police Brighton Siwale said Raphael a motorbike rider was on friday,17th July,2026 hired by three people from Kimakolwe area in Solwezi to take them to Kansanshi Mine boom gate but upon reaching they changed and asked him to join old Congo DR road heading to Kabwela area where they attacked him and went away with the motor bike.

This is according to a statement made available to the media in Solwezi.

He stated that upon police interviewing the suspects who were arrested in Mushindamo District on Sunday 29th July ,2026 they narrated that it was around Kabwela area where they attacked the victim after waylaying him, hammered him three times on the head with a pick handle, dumped him in the bush unconscious and left.

“The three suspects were arrested from Mushindamo District and brought to Solwezi Central Police Station. They had escaped with the victims motor bike black in colour, boxer, unregistered which was stolen from Solwezi’s Kazomba area,” he said.

Mr Siwale said after the suspects were picked by Solwezi police officers, a follow up to the place where they mentioned to have left the rider unconscious was made on 21st July,2026 to ascertain if he was murdered or not.

He said fortunately enough the rider was found alive in a weak state and he was picked up and taken to Solwezi General Hospital where he is still receiving medical attention and currently out of danger.

Mr Siwale said the suspects have since be charged with Aggravated Robbery and will appear in court soon.
