Zambia : President Hichilema Pledges To Formalise Mufumbwe’s Kikonge Mine

 President Hakainde Hichilema has promised to finalise the formalisation of the Kikonge mine in Mufumbwe District in Northwestern Province if re-elected in the August 13 general elections.

President Hichilema says he will ensure that the mine employs the local people so that they also get empowered.

He said he will ensure that the locals are given the necessary equipment so that they mine safely.

“Am not going to allow foreigners to be employed at Kikonge, I want the local people from Mufumbwe to be employed,” said President Hichilema.

President Hichilema said he will ensure to give many mining licences to the locals that will be conducting mining activities at Kikonge mine.

The Head of State has called on residents of Mufumbwe district to vote for the UPND party for continued development in the area.

President Hichilema explained that voting for the UPND party will enable the residents to continue enjoying the incentives such as Cash for work, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and the Social Cash Transfer.

Speaking during a community engagement at Jairos Fumpa Secondary School grounds this afternoon, President Hichilema stated that voting for UPND will see the expansion of the Mufumbwe Prisons which is small.

 President Hichilema disclosed that his priority is to work on the township roads such as Kalengwa- Kabipupu and M8 roads.

“We are going to work on the Kalengwa-Kabipupu and the M8 roads that are in a deplorable state,” stated President Hichilema.

The Head of State has also pledged to expand the Mufumbwe district hospital that will have many departments in order to avoid referrals to bigger hospitals.

“We will expand the Mifumbwe district hospital into a bigger one. We will ensure the expanded one will have many units so that we avoid reffering patients to other hospitals,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema has re -emphasised that Kalengwa mining jobs should be given to the locals stressing that not people from other regions.

” We opened the Kalengwa mine after 40 years of being closed, so we want residents of Mufumbwe to be employed so that they are also empowered not employing people from other parts of the country,” President Hichilema noted.

He said he wants to legalise mining at Kikonge mine so that the resident can mine safely.

President Hichilema said he will give more licences to the residents to be mining from Kikonge .

“We will ensure to give the residents the necessary equipment to the residents to mine at Kikonge, we will also provide a market for them to sell their gold,” said President Hichilema.

“I don’t want Kikonge people to be fighting like in Eastern Congo,” President Hichilema stated.

He also instructed that the volunteer nurses that attended the engagement should be employed next month.

The Head of State has also promised to give Stephen Masumba employment for being loyal to him and the party.

“Masumba, am happy that you have been so loyal to the party. You wanted to contest but the party did not adopt you but you behaved yourself. Therefore, I promise to give you a job after August 13,” said President Hichilema.

President Hichilema further stated that if re -elected, his government will ensure that Mufumbwe has more satelite depots.

“We are going to increase the fertiliser for farmers stressing that they will no longer be sharing a bucket,” said President Hichilema.

He also disclosed that if re- elected,  he  will ensure early distribution of FISP across the country.

And the Chairperson for the Kikonge Mining Consortium has expressed gratitude with the President’s pronouncements on Kikonge mine stating that they have been looking forward to the formalisation.
