President Hichilema says the road which is nearing completion, will improve connectivity, facilitate trade and contribute to the country’s economic development.
He said the USD650 million project is being implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) at no cost to the government, compared to the proposal under the previous administration which would have cost more than one billion United States dollars.
President Hichilema was speaking today during a drive through inspection of the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway to appreciate the works done so far on the project.
“We are going to ensure that this Great North Dual Carriageway is complete. We made sure the road is being constructed at a more reasonable price as opposed to the initial cost under the former government,” President Hichilema said.
Addressing the residents of 10 miles area, President Hichilema urged Zambians to vote for the UPND in next month’s general elections to ensure that the project and other ongoing development programmes are completed.
“I am urging you to vote for continuation of development in the country,” he said.
The Head of State advised citizens not to return to what he described as the days of political violence and economic instability under the previous administration.
He further reminded citizens of the importance of the Free Education Policy and the school feeding programme, saying the initiatives have expanded access to education and provided support to learners.
President Hichilema said there would be no justification for changing the current leadership if the opposition supports many of the policies being implemented by the New Dawn Administration.
And President Hichilema directed that four volunteer nurses who were part of the gathered residents along the roadside be recruited into the public service next month.
The President later continued with his drive-through inspection of the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway.
