Zambia : Power Targets Positive Start In Africa

‎Power Dynamos coach Oswald Mutapa is seeking a positive start ahead of this weekend’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2026/27 First Preliminary Round match against Al Merriekh SC of Sudan.

‎The Zambian champions left for Rwanda on Tuesday, where the Sudanese giants are playing their home matches.
‎
‎Mutapa says the first leg is critical in setting the tone for the campaign.
‎
‎“This is an important assignment we are going into. From the first game you need to get a positive result and that makes you half way through to the next round,” Mutapa said before departure.
‎
‎“A positive result is important so that as we start the CAF Champions League campaign we will know where we are going. It is important that we start on a high and positive note,” he added.
‎
‎The coach urged his players to go to Rwanda with courage and intent.
‎
‎“We must go to Rwanda with courage, show intent from the word go so that even as we come to the return leg we would have done half of the job,” Mutapa said.
‎
‎The first leg is scheduled for September 4-6, with the return leg set for September 11-13.
‎
‎This is Power’s second consecutive appearance in the Champions League.
‎
‎The Second Preliminary Round will be played on October 16-18 and October 23-25, with the 16 winners advancing to the group stage at the end of November.
