Lusangazi District Electoral Officer, Tembo Sekani, confirmed that the district had received all ballot paper boxes required for every polling station, covering the Presidential, Parliamentary, Council Chairperson and Ward Councilor elections.
Mr Sekani said the ballot papers were verified against the Material Issue Forms in the presence of political stakeholders to ensure the serial numbers corresponded with the official records.
He explained that the ballot papers are classified as sensitive election materials and have been placed under 24-hour security in a secure storage facility awaiting verification and subsequent distribution to polling stations.
Mr Sekani added that stakeholders would continue verifying the election materials before they are officially handed over to Presiding Officers for deployment to polling stations.
He assured voters that the ballot papers were secure and encouraged all eligible citizens to prepare to exercise their constitutional right to vote peacefully on polling day.
Meanwhile, Independent Parliamentary Candidate Election Agent, Mususa Mwambula, described the receipt of the ballot papers as transparent and satisfactory.
Mr Mwambulwa said political stakeholders were able to verify the number of ballot paper boxes received, thereby strengthening accountability and confidence in the electoral process.
He urged those responsible for safeguarding the ballot papers to maintain the same level of integrity until the materials are delivered to polling stations.
Mr Mwambulwa also appealed for equal treatment of all political contestants, regardless of party affiliation or independent status, and called on election officials to remain impartial throughout the electoral process.
And Aspiring Independent Candidate for Lusangazi Council Chairperson, Patrick Banda, commended the Electoral Commission of Zambia for conducting the exercise professionally and transparently.
Mr Banda who witnessed the arrival and handover of the ballot papers, said the process had inspired confidence among stakeholders.
He appealed to the Commission to continue providing round the clock security for the ballot papers until polling day and called on political players and members of the public to uphold peace before, during and after the elections.
The arrival of the ballot papers marks another key milestone in Lusangazi District’s preparations for the 2026 General Election, with verification of the materials expected to continue before their distribution to polling stations.
