Luangwa District Commissioner Luke Chikani has commended political players for maintaining peace and order during the campaign period in the district.

Mr Chikani says no violence has been recorded since the commencement of the campaigns, citing unity and love being promoted by government.

Speaking when a team of Election Observers who are in the country from the European Union paid a courtesy call on him, Mr Chikani emphasised that Zambia is a peaceful nation that does not promote violence.

“I must confess that the country has never had peaceful campaigns such as these since Zambia gained its Independence from the colonial masters and we are happy as a country and of course as a district that each political player has a fair playing ground,” he explained.

Mr Chikani further explained that the institution mandated to handle the elections at district level was doing everything possible to ensure that the process was transparent and professional from the voter education component to the actual voting day.

He said political players in the district have strictly adhered to the laid down guidelines by the Electoral Commission of Zambia leading to a safe political environment in the district.

The DC called on the public and all political players to maintain the love, peace and unity that has been exercised from the beginning of the electoral exercise.

European Union Long Term Observer, Milan Kuksa explained that the role of the European Union was to follow the electoral process in the field until the Election Day on 13th August, 2026.

Mr Kuksa said the observers meet key stakeholders and report regularly to the core team.

“My colleagues Claudia Kamariza and Suzen Mwape are part of the team that is monitoring and observing the electoral process in Chongwe, Rufunsa and Luangwa Districts and therefore, you will be seeing us quiet often,” he explained.
