Zambia : Kampamba Backs Lwandamina For Permanent Chipolopolo Job

Former Zambia midfield star Gift Kampamba has urged the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to appoint George Lwandamina as full-time Chipolopolo coach ahead of next month’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

‎Lwandamina is currently serving as Zambia interim coach and is also head coach of Nchanga Rangers.
‎
‎FAZ appointed Lwandamina as interim Chipolopolo coach last March after separating with Moses Sichone.
‎
‎Zambia begins the 2027 AFCON qualification campaign with an away fixture against Algeria in late September 2026.
‎
‎Kampamba, a former Nkana and Mamelodi Sundowns player, said Lwandamina should be detached from Nchanga to allow him to focus solely on the national team job.
‎
‎“You know Zambian coaches are never given a good chance and good contract to enable them to excel. Most of the time Zambian coaches just work like volunteers without contracts and that creates uncertainties as they coach the National Team. It won’t help for Lwandamina to coach the National Team and a club at the same time,”_ Kampamba said.
‎
‎He said it is high time FAZ started offering local coaches the same incentives given to expatriates when leading Chipolopolo.
‎
‎“Give Lwandamina a two or three year contract and see how he will perform. Look at what happened with the Women’s Team, coach Bruce Mwape worked without a contract but coach Nora Häuptle was given a contract,” he added.
‎
‎Kampamba, who represented Zambia at the 2002 Africa Cup in Mali, said Lwandamina is suitable to coach the National Team and that local coaches can move the team forward.
‎
‎Lwandamina has a two-year contract with Nchanga. He was Chipolopolo coach between 2015 and 2016.
