National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile says the problem that the country is facing today is because President Hakainde Hichilema and his administration have forgotten that power belongs to the people.

He says if a government fails to take care of its people it has to be removed from office.

“If a government fails to take care of its people, then the people should remove that government from office.

“The problems we are facing today are because President Hichilema and his Cabinet ministers forgot that power belongs to the people,” Mundubile said.

Speaking when he addressed a mammoth rally in Kapiri Mposhi this afternoon, Mundubile pledged ‘drive-to-own’ initiative for car drivers.

“When we form government after 13th August, we will introduce two youth empowerment programmes: “Drive to Own” for motor vehicle drivers and “Ride to Own” for motorbike riders.

“These initiatives will provide vehicles and motorbikes on flexible credit.

“This will enable young people to work, earn a decent income and eventually own the assets they use to build their livelihoods.

“Our goal is to create opportunities, promote ownership and empower more young Zambians to achieve economic independence.

Speaking about electricity, he said Zambians should have access to adequate electricity before power is exported to neighbouring countries adding that an NRPUP government would prioritise Zambians in terms of power supply before considering exports.

He said this was important to ensure that normal life in households was not disrupted and to save small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from collapse.

“We will ensure that citizens have adequate supply of electricity. There will be no load shedding to ensure that small and medium enterprises continue to operate,” Mundubile said.

He said the NRPUP government would reduce electricity tariffs to make power affordable for the majority of poor citizens.

On economic activities in Kapiri Mposhi, Mundubile said the NRPUP government would work towards reviving the glass manufacturing plant in the district similar to the Kapiri Glass Factory.

He said it was now evident that the United Party for National Development (UPND) had failed to fulfil promises made before the 2021 general election to reduce the price of mealie-meal to K50 per 25-kilogramme bag and to reduce the pump price of fuel to K12 per litre.
