The project will be undertaken through the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).
In an interview with the media, IDC Chief Executive Officer Cornwell Muleya said investors are on standby and ready to take up the project.
Mr. Muleya said the new refinery will give Government greater control over fuel production and help ensure affordable fuel for Zambians.
He said the project is expected to create 3,000 jobs during the construction phase and about 800 permanent jobs once the refinery becomes fully operational.
Mr. Muleya said the project will also help restore Ndola’s position as one of the country’s major industrial hubs.
He said the refinery will have a wider impact on other industries, with by-products such as bitumen and polyethylene expected to support road construction and plastics manufacturing.
