Zambia : Govt Releases K21.1 Billion In July

Government released 21.1 billion Kwacha in July towards public services, food security, support for farmers and vulnerable households, free education and infrastructure development.

The latest release brings total Treasury disbursements between January and July 2026 to 152.05 billion Kwacha.

Secretary to the Treasury FELIX NKULUKUSA says the releases are aimed at ensuring that public resources translate into tangible benefits for citizens.

Of the July allocation, 6.3 billion Kwacha went towards transfers, subsidies and social benefits, while 5.9 billion Kwacha was allocated to the public service wage bill and related obligations.

A further 4.3 billion Kwacha was used for domestic and external debt service and the dismantling of domestic arrears, while 3.4 billion Kwacha supported government programmes and general operations.

The remaining 1.2 billion Kwacha was directed towards capital expenditure.

Food security remains a key priority, with the Food Reserve Agency receiving 2.7 billion Kwacha in July.

The Farmer Input Support Programme received 660 million Kwacha, bringing total FISP releases for the year to 6.4 billion Kwacha.

Government also released 564.2 million Kwacha for the Social Cash Transfer Programme, bringing cumulative releases for the programme this year to 2.3 billion Kwacha.

In the education sector, schools received 841.4 million Kwacha in grants to support the implementation of the free education programme, bringing total grants released to schools this year to 2.4 billion Kwacha.

Grant-aided institutions, including hospitals and universities, received 709.3 million Kwacha, while the Public Service Pension Fund was allocated 507.3 million Kwacha towards pension obligations.

On infrastructure, 1.2 billion Kwacha was released for capital projects, including 592 million Kwacha for roads, 243.3 million Kwacha for water infrastructure, 188.9 million Kwacha for the rehabilitation of National Assembly buildings, 101.3 million Kwacha for education infrastructure and 50 million Kwacha for mini-hospital projects.

Mr. NKULUKUSA says continued debt servicing and the dismantling of domestic arrears are critical to maintaining fiscal credibility and creating room for investment and economic growth.

He says Government remains optimistic about the country’s economic outlook but will continue to exercise prudence in managing public resources.

Mr. NKULUKUSA says the focus in the second half of the year will be on converting available resources into stronger public services, productive infrastructure, economic opportunities and improved livelihoods.

He says Government will also prioritise expenditure and protect key programmes amid pressure on fuel prices arising from geopolitical developments affecting global petroleum supplies.

This is according to a statement released by Mr. NKULUKUSA.
