ZAMBIA’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, has arrived in New York to participate in the 81st session of the U.N. General Assembly.

This is according to a press statement issued by Namatama Njekwa, first secretary for press and public relations at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations.

Haimbe is representing President Hakainde Hichilema. Other delegation members include Minister of Health Roma Chilengi and senior government officials, according to a statement from Zambia’s U.N. mission.

The General Assembly session, with the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All,” runs Sept. 22-28.

Zambia will use the session to reaffirm its commitment to peace, democracy and stability following recent general elections, the statement said.

Central to its engagement is the Grow Zambia Agenda, which seeks to mobilize technical assistance, development finance and strategic investment, align U.N. programs with national priorities, obtain support for a National Architecture for Peace, establish diplomatic relations and strengthen Zambia’s influence, including its candidacy for the Human Rights Council.

Haimbe will reaffirm Zambia’s commitment to constitutionalism, the rule of law, fundamental freedoms and human rights protection, and will highlight Zambia’s candidacy for the Human Rights Council for the 2027-2029 term.

He will deliver Zambia’s national statement on behalf of the head of state during the high-level General Debate on Sept. 28.

The delegation will also participate in the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group, where Zambia is deputy chair, the Group of 77 and China, and bilateral meetings with several countries. Priorities include the Pact for the Future, the Global Digital Compact and the Seville Commitment.

The Pact for the Future aims to revitalize multilateralism and accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals, its annexed Global Digital Compact advances inclusive digital cooperation, and the Seville Commitment, adopted in 2025, addresses financing gaps and international financial reform.
