Siavonga District Electoral Officer Kennedy Shombo, speaking at Lake View Lodge when he opened a Poll Day briefing meeting for political parties, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), church representatives and members of the media, said the district has so far recorded no cases of political violence since the commencement of the election campaigns.
Mr Shombo urged political parties and their supporters to continue adhering to the Electoral Code of Conduct and maintain peace before, during and after polling day and called on the media to verify information before publication and help promote peace and prevent the spread of misinformation.
Mr Shombo also reminded voters that political regalia will not be allowed at polling stations on polling day.
Meanwhile, Siavonga District Returning Officer Steven Mbita reaffirmed the ECZ’s commitment to delivering a credible election.
In a presentation, Assistant Returning Officer Mutinta Mutoloki highlighted key electoral processes and procedures, including the deployment of poll staff, timelines, conflict resolution mechanisms, verification of ballot papers and account forms, as well as results management.
Mr Mutoloki said the Commission was fully prepared and that all necessary arrangements were being put in place ahead of polling day.
The briefing was aimed at equipping stakeholders with information on Poll Day activities, operational arrangements, electoral procedures and their respective roles in ensuring a smooth, peaceful, transparent and credible electoral process.
