The Zambia Women’s Senior National Team has started its Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in Morocco on a high note.

Zambia defeated Egypt 6–0, with Rachael Nachula opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the 25th minute after Copper Queens captain Barbra Banda was brought down in the 18-yard box by Egyptian defender Ibrahim.

The Nora Häuptle-coached side created numerous scoring opportunities but failed to convert several chances before the referee blew the whistle for halftime in an entertaining match played at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday.

In the 58th minute of the second half, Banda scored her first goal of the match from the penalty spot after the referee awarded Zambia a penalty for a handball by an Egyptian defender following Prisca Chilufya’s cross into the box.

Shortly afterwards, Banda headed home her second goal to give the Copper Queens a 3–0 lead. She completed her hat-trick in the 85th minute with another well-taken finish.

Eneless Phiri added Zambia’s fifth goal in stoppage time with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area after exchanging passes with Banda.

Banda then sealed the emphatic 6–0 victory by scoring her fourth goal of the match three minutes before the final whistle.

Zambia now tops Group C with 3 points, which also includes Nigeria, Egypt and Malawi.
