Team Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga has secured direct qualification to the Men’s 400m semi-finals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, placing him among the event’s eight fastest athletes.

‎Speaking to the Commonwealth Games Association of Zambia – CGA Zambia Media Team, Samukonga expressed confidence in his preparations to defend the title he won in Birmingham four years ago.
‎
‎“I am more than prepared. I have been preparing for the Commonwealth Games for the past two years,” he said.
‎
‎The defending Commonwealth champion said he is in excellent condition and is looking forward to stepping onto the track with confidence.
‎
‎“I am okay, and I am going onto the track to enjoy myself and have fun,” Samukonga added.
‎
‎Reflecting on the challenge ahead, the Zambian sprint star acknowledged that retaining a title is often more demanding than winning it for the first time.
‎
‎“Becoming a champion is easy, but defending your title and remaining consistent is hard. I am praying to God to guide me through this journey, and I know He will,” he said.
‎
‎According to the National Olympic Committee of Zambia, Samukonga will compete in Men’s 400m Semi-Final Heat 2 on Thursday, 30 July, at 14:10 CAT at Scotstoun Stadium, where he will be aiming to secure a place in the final.
‎
‎Meanwhile, Team Zambia sprinter Edna Ng’andula’s quest for a place in the Women’s 200m final came to an unfortunate end after she was disqualified in the semi-final.
‎
‎Ng’andula had crossed the finish line in second place with a personal best time of 23.50 seconds, but was disqualified for stepping on the lane line during the race.
‎
‎She will now turn her attention to the mixed 4x400m Relay, where she will aim to help Team Zambia deliver another strong performance.
‎
‎In lawn bowls, Mildred Mkandawire lost in the Women’s Singles to Bridget Herselman of South Africa in straight sets, 13–1 and 8–4.
‎
‎Despite the setbacks, Team Zambia continues to compete with determination, resilience, and pride as the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games enter the decisive stages.
