Zambia : Ballot Papers Arrive In Mongu

Ballot papers for the August 13 General Elections have safely arrived in Mongu District, Western Province, marking another key milestone in the country’s electoral preparations.

The ballot papers were received under the supervision of electoral officials and other stakeholders before being offloaded and secured for distribution to polling stations across the district.

Speaking shortly after the arrival of the materials, Mongu District Electoral Officer Oswell Mpofu confirmed that all ballot papers for the district’s three constituencies Mongu Central, Nalikwanda and Mongu East had been received in good condition.

Mr Mpofu said the electoral materials arrived intact and assured the public that the ballot boxes and other election materials had not been tampered with.

He further encouraged representatives of political parties and other accredited stakeholders to inspect the ballot boxes and election materials in line with the Electoral Commission’s transparency measures aimed at enhancing public confidence in the electoral process.

Meanwhile, United Party for National Development (UPND) Mongu District Secretary Bright Masialeti expressed satisfaction with the successful arrival of the ballot papers, describing the process as transparent and well-coordinated.

Mr Masialeti said his party remained confident of victory in the forthcoming elections, adding that many people in Western Province continue to support President Hakainde Hichilema, whom he said has delivered on a significant number of his campaign promises.

And Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) Campaign Manager Mayor Musiabosia appealed to all political parties, candidates and their supporters to uphold peace before, during and after the elections.

Mr Musiabosia urged voters to exercise their democratic right responsibly and reject all forms of violence, saying peaceful elections are essential for preserving national unity and democracy.

The arrival of ballot papers in Mongu forms part of the Electoral Commission’s nationwide distribution of election materials ahead of the August 13 General Elections, as preparations continue across the country.
