ZAF DISMISSES SOCIAL MEDIA AIR CRASH ALLEGATIONS

The Zambia Air Force-ZAF- has dismissed as false claims circulating on social media that it recently suffered an undisclosed air crash.

ZAF Director of Public Relations and Foreign Liaison, MUTALE KASOMA, says the claims are false, misleading and a total fabrication by what he describes as unscrupulous social media pages.

Colonel KASOMA says the incident being referred to occurred on October 16, 2010 at Mukinge Airstrip in North-Western Province.

He says the incident involved a twin-engine Harbin Y-12 Two utility aircraft, registration AF-215, operated by the Zambia Air Force, and not a recent crash as portrayed on social media.

Colonel KASOMA says ZAF remains committed to aviation safety, operational discipline and strict adherence to established standard operating procedures in all its operations.

He says the safety of personnel, aircraft and other operational assets remains a fundamental priority for the Air Force.

Colonel KASOMA has urged members of the public to verify information through official Zambia Air Force communication channels before sharing or publishing claims that may be misleading.

He says those who disseminate misleading information could find themselves in conflict with the law.
