Epoxy resin flooring is rapidly emerging as a viable alternative to traditional ceramic tiles in Zambia, with rising demand for durable, seamless, and low-maintenance solutions reshaping preferences among homeowners and commercial property developers.

Speaking to the Zambian Business Times (ZBT), George Enoke Tembo, founder of Galaxy Times Construction, noted that an increasing number of clients are choosing epoxy flooring for its exceptional durability, ease of maintenance, and contemporary finish. Unlike ceramic tiles, epoxy resin is applied as a continuous layer, eliminating grout lines where dirt, moisture, and bacteria can accumulate.

“Customers are looking for flooring that lasts longer, is easy to maintain, and gives buildings a modern appearance,” Tembo explained. He added that epoxy flooring is resistant to heavy impacts, stains, and chemicals, making it suitable for homes, warehouses, garages, and other high-traffic environments. Epoxy resin also provides greater design flexibility, allowing clients to select from a wide range of colours, metallic finishes, and decorative patterns to complement various architectural styles.

 However, Tembo emphasized that epoxy flooring is unlikely to fully replace ceramic tiles. “There is competition in business, and clients have every right to choose what works best for them,” he said. He suggested that the rise in epoxy flooring should be seen as an expansion of consumer choice rather than a threat to traditional tile options.
