Deleting a message for yourself generally removes it from your own view of the conversation.

That does not necessarily mean that the other person has lost their copy.

If you choose the option to delete a message for everyone, WhatsApp attempts to remove the message from the relevant chat for the participants. However, this does not mean that every possible copy or trace disappears from existence.
