THE United States has commended Zambia for holding successful and peaceful elections on Aug. 13.

Executive Director to the Deputy Under Secretary of the U.S. Air Force for International Affairs Eugene Park said the United States is proud of the peaceful polls.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Defence, Park said Zambia is a priority country for the United States.

“Zambia is a priority country for the United States. We have had over 60 years of bilateral relations. We are ready to work with you and support the modernization of the Zambian military,” Park said.

He commended Zambia for taking the lead in international military engagements, especially in hosting the Africa Land Forces Summit in 2024 and the African Air Chiefs Symposium in 2026.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Milicent Mwenda said defense and security cooperation between Zambia and the United States is growing every year.

Mwenda said Zambian military personnel have had opportunities to train in the United States.

“We wish to thank the American government for the various infrastructure they recently handed over at the Kenneth Kaunda Peace Training Center in Lusaka. That infrastructure cost millions of dollars and we appreciate so much,” she said.

This is according to a statement was issued by Principal Public Relations Officer, Paul Shalala.
