The United Party for National Development (UPND) Chilubi Constituency candidate, Mathias Chitembo, has scooped the seat.

Declaring the results in the early hours of today, Chilubi Constituency Returning Officer, John Longwe, declared Mr Chitembo as duly elected after polling 10, 422 votes beating seven other contestants.

National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity candidate, Mulenga Fube, came second with 7,574 votes, followed by CDP’s Obious Chisala who polled 5,306 votes.

Independent Candidate, Christabel Kalasa, polled 3,679 votes to come forth, while Citizens First candidate, Simon Muwa, garnered 2,760 votes.

Other results were Socialist Party’s, Gilbert Mwila, with 514 votes, Independent Rosemary Chimbini, with 469 votes, and Independent Candidate, Daniel Mwaba, with 227 votes.

Mr Longwe further announced that 1,460 ballot papers were rejected as invalid, bringing the total votes cast to 32,418.

“I therefore declare that the said Chitembo Mathias to be this day duly elected as Member of Parliament for Chilubi Constituency,” Mr Longwe said.

The results were witnessed by representatives of participating political parties and Civil Society Organisations including NRPUP, UPND, CDP, GEARS initiative and the SACCOD.
