Could Turkey and Israel Actually Go to War   Over Syria?

TURKEY-ISRAEL TENSIONS ARE RISING  AND SYRIA COULD BECOME THE FLASHPOINT

A direct war between Turkey and Israel may sound unthinkable, but tensions between the two regional powers are increasingly focused on Syria.

Israel recently struck the Abu al-Duhur airbase in Syria, reportedly after a Turkish military delegation visited the facility. Israel has expressed concern over Turkey’s expanding military presence and activities in Syria.

Turkey strongly condemned the strikes, rejecting Israel’s justification and accusing Israel of further destabilizing Syria and violating its sovereignty.

The situation could become far more dangerous if Israeli strikes were to directly hit Turkish troops, military equipment, or positions inside Syria.

Such an incident could transform the current dispute into a direct military confrontation between two of the region’s most capable armed forces.

Turkey is a NATO member with a large and powerful military, while Israel possesses advanced airpower, missile defenses, intelligence capabilities and long-range strike capabilities.

For now, Turkey has not declared war on Israel or announced a military response. But continued Israeli-Turkish tensions over Syria could create a serious risk of escalation.
