Brian Mundubile’s Team Charged with Treason

Police in Lusaka today charged the 11 individuals found with Hon. Brian Mundubile during a militry raid to his house on 14th August 2026.

Leading candidate, Brian Mundubile had just arrived at his home located on Kudu road in Kabulonga with the entourage after a consultative meeting with the joint African Union and COMESA Election Observation Mission for Zambia’s Election led by former Prime Minister, Hailemariam Dessalegn Boshe.

Shortly upon arrival at his residence, they were attacked by a military invasion that saw soldiers shoot and kill former Minister of Transports and Communications, Mutotwe Kafwaya.

Those charged with Treason are; Bishop Trevor Mwamba, (68), renowned lawyer, Mr. George Kangwa Chisanga, (59), Mr. Patrick Mwansa, (39) businessman and former civic leader, ex-servicemen Mr. Jackson Mutyoka,(41) Mr. Brazil Soko, (56) andMr. Bernard Chewe,( 41).

Others are; Mr. Simon Phiri, Aged 43, Mr. Richard Banda, Aged 49, Mr. Francis Mulenga, Aged 26,Mr. Emmanuel Mulenga, Aged 56, Mr. Darius Mwila, Aged 57.

President Hakainde Hichilema has accused his rival, Brian Mundubile of forming a militia.
Mundubile has dismissed the assertions stating that Hichilema was preventing the truth that he and soldiers from the Zambia Army had stolen the election.

Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu have taken shelter at the United Nations Building.

The Inspector General of Police has since issued a call-out that the duo must report to the police to answer to charges of treason and insurrection.

United Nations Human Rights Chief Volker Türk urged the Zambian government to immediately stop arbitrary arrests and detentions of opposition figures following the country’s general election.

The UN called for full respect for due process and fair legal standards for all individuals held.
