Human Rights Activist, Ngande Mwanajiti says stability, peace and unity were among the key factors that influenced the majority of voters to participate in the elections.
Mr Mwanajiti, who joined other stakeholders in congratulating President-elect Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election in the August 13, 2026 general elections, thanked the people for exercising their democratic right to vote.
Mr Mwanajiti told the media in an interview in Lusaka that Zambians remain agreed on the fundamentals of the rule of law, which should continue to guide the country beyond the elections.
He implored on those who voted and participated in the electoral process to embrace those that did not.
On violence, the Democracy Specialist condemned the vice saying nobody should use the electoral process to conceal criminal intentions or actions.
ZANIS reports that Mr Mwanajiti called on relevant government wings to swiftly address the situation in adherence to the wish of President-elect, Mr Hichilema.
He explained that the law does not cease to apply because the country is undertaking an important national exercise such as general elections.
He further called on law enforcement agencies to uphold the principle of proportionality in enforcing the law.
Meanwhile, United Truck Drivers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia – (UTDAWUZ) President, Givers Moonga has also congratulated President-elect Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election for a second term.
Mr Moonga said the Union is confident that the new administration will continue promoting economic growth, decent employment, social justice and inclusive national development.
ZANIS reports that Mr Moonga said in a separate interview that the transport sector remains the backbone of the Zambian economy, adding that UTDAWUZ looks forward to strengthening its partnership with the government in advancing workers’ rights, improving road safety, creating sustainable jobs and promoting a fair and productive labour environment.
He wished President -elect Hichilema wisdom, strength and good health as he leads the country towards greater unity, prosperity and development.
