Social media users have been urged to stop mocking content creators over their living conditions and instead offer encouragement and support.

Speaking in an interview with Lusaka star, content creator Miniva Mwenda said social media users are often quick to judge people without knowing the challenges they face in their personal lives.

Miniva said she has experienced ridicule from people who laugh at her because she lives in a house without a roof.

“People laugh at me because I live in a house that does not have a roof,” she said.

She said social media users can quickly turn unusual information about a content creator into a source of ridicule, with some people creating jokes and content about their struggles.

She added that some people who hear something unusual about a person immediately rush to social media platforms such as TikTok and Facebook to make fun of them.

“Just because I said I have a son who has a big head people have started using the sound on TikTok and thats makes me uncomfortable because social media is Nolonger a place where you can express yourself,” she said.

Meanwhile, content creator Jane Bwalya said social media has become a platform where people sometimes choose to pull others down instead of encouraging them.

Bwalya said some content creators including Miniva, have faced ridicule because of their backgrounds and living conditions.

“I have been one of those people who have seen how Miniva has suffered, and I feel pity for her because she did not choose what she has now but God,” she said.

She emphasized that people should avoid judging others based on their circumstances because everyone has a different background and personal struggles.

Bwalya noted that members of the public should use social media to encourage and support content creators rather than making their challenges a source of entertainment.
