BREAKING; LINDA KASONDE FILES PRESIDENTIAL PETITION ELECTRONICALLY.

Former Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) President Linda Kasonde has taken a significant legal step by attempting to electronically file a Presidential Petition following reported security concerns at the Judiciary.

In a letter addressed to Chief Justice Mumba Malila SC, Ms. Kasonde says she attempted to electronically submit the petition to the Chief Registrar’s Office in accordance with Order III of the Constitutional Court Rules.

However, she says the official email address provided for the electronic filing bounced back, preventing the submission from being completed through that channel.

Despite the setback, Ms. Kasonde has forwarded the key court documents directly to the Chief Justice for further action.

The documents attached include the People’s Petition, Affidavit Verifying the Facts, List of Authorities and Submissions.

“Given the security threat at the judiciary today, I attempted to electronically file the attached People’s Petition with the Chief Registrar’s Office pursuant to Order III of the Constitutional Court Rules, however the official email address bounced back.”

“I now attach the Petition, Affidavit Verifying the Facts, List of Authorities, and Submissions for your further action.”

Ms. Kasonde’s move is therefore significant because it demonstrates an attempt to use electronic means to initiate the petition process, rather than relying solely on physical access to the court premises.

The immediate question now is whether the Judiciary will acknowledge receipt of the documents and provide a mechanism through which the electronic filing can be formally completed.

She writes ✍️……

TO: The Honourable Chief Justice of the Republic of Zambia

Dear Justice Malila SC,

I hope you are well. Given the security threat at the judiciary today, I attempted to electronically file the attached People’s petition with the Chief Registrar’s Office pursuant to Order III of the Constitutional Court Rules, however the official email address bounced back. I now attach the Petition,  Affidavit Verifying the Facts, List of Authorities,  and  Submissions for your further action.

Kind regards,

Linda Kasonde
