PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has  commissioned the 100 megawatt Phase II of the Chisamba solar power plant, bringing the site’s total capacity to 200 megawatts.

The Head of State said every additional megawatt means “more homes with the lights on, more businesses running at full capacity, and more jobs for our people.”

“This plant is also proof that our energy reforms are working,” President Hichilema said. “By opening up the sector, we have attracted serious private investment, and more plants like this are now being built across the country.”

He said the government is deliberately building a diverse energy mix of hydro, solar, and thermal power “so that our economy is never again held hostage by drought.”

“As we rapidly expand mining, agriculture, manufacturing and infrastructure, Zambia will need much more power. We are building it now,” he said.
