Prepare 2 speeches, one for victory the other for defeat, Nevers counsels candidates
FORMER Vice President Nevers Mumba has advised all presidential candidates to prepare two speeches ahead of the declaration of the 2026 presidential election results, saying one to celebrate victory and another to concede defeat.
Speaking live on his Facebook page, Dr Mumba said the manner in which a candidate handles defeat will demonstrate the kind of leaders they are.
“I would like to advise all candidates, and it is important that you write two speeches. One to celebrate and accept your victory if you win. The other speech is to concede defeat when you lose,” he said.
He explained that candidates should understand that losing an election does not amount to rejection but a deferment of their leadership ambitions to a later stage.
Dr Mumba also said both President Hakainde Hichilema and Brian Mundubile should prepare the speeches for either outcome.
“Write two speeches. Don’t write one of victory,” Dr emphasised.
He further encouraged Zambians to remain calm, work together and allow the Electoral Commission of Zambia to do its duty.
“Why don’t we unite as a people? Why don’t we hold hands together?” Dr Mumba questioned. Why don’t we trust the process? Why don’t we believe in the institutions we have created for ourselves?”
