Post on Facebook that ‘Hakainde is a liar,’ Makebi tests supporters

NRPUP presidential running mate Makebi Zulu yesterday challenged supporters at a campaign rally to take out their phones and post on Facebook that President Hakainde Hichilema “is a liar,” while questioning whether they were afraid of the Cyber Security laws.

When he noticed hesitance, he said it himself, arguing that the claim was justified owing to reasons he detailed most of which bordered on 2021 campaign promises by now Head of State.

“Do you have phones? Write on your phones and post on Facebook that Hakainde is a liar. Post that Hakainde is a liar. Are you scared? Are you afraid of Cyber [laws]? I am saying it here; Hakainde is a liar,” Makebi said.

He went on to accuse the President of failing to fulfil campaign promises, asking supporters: “Didn’t he lie about [reducing the prices of] mealie meal? Didn’t he lie about [prices of] fertilizer? Didn’t he lie about [reducing] fuel prices? Isn’t it the person who lied is that same person?”

During the rally, Makebi also drew attention to mealie meal prepacks that were being waved by one of the supporters in the crowd.

Holding up the prepacks, he remarked: “Wasn’t he the one that was going round with these prepacks?”

He further questioned whether the UPND government’s economic promises had translated into improved living standards.

“He told you you would be having three meals a day. How many meals are you having per day? How many of those meals come out of a prepack? This can only prepare porridge. Is it the life we want to continue with? We have come with Brian Mundubile so we can talk to you,” he said.

The NRPUP Presidential duo yesterday concluded their engagements with Lusaka electorate.
