Over one thousand five hundred beneficiaries in Luangwa District are earmarked for the 2026/2027 rain red farming season under the Food Security Pack (FSP) implemented by the Department of Community Development.

Luangwa District Assistant Community Development Officer, Harriet Phiri explained that government has provided farming inputs amounting to 3, 080 by 50 kilogrammes bags of Urea fertiliser, 3, 080 by 50 kilogrammes bags   D-compound   of fertiliser, 1, 540 by 10 kilogrammes bags of maize seed and 1, 540 by 10 kilogrammes bags of bean seed.

Speaking to the media in an interview, Ms Phiri explained that the implementation of the programme in the district has improved the livelihoods of the beneficiaries who are able to fend for their families.

“Our beneficiaries are put on the programme for a period of three farming seasons after which they are weaned off for others to benefit as well,” she said.

Ms Phiri added that the programme equips beneficiaries with skills to improve their farming techniques and manage farming produce after a successful harvest.

She further explained that enumeration of beneficiaries was underway in the district.

She commended the government for the continued social protection programmes such as the Food Security Pack that she said has tremendously transformed the lives of the beneficiaries.
