NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has left Livingstone residents guessing, with party officials issuing conflicting statements over whether he will visit the city, citing security concerns.

A check by News Diggers on Saturday at Libuyu Grounds near St Mary’s Secondary School, the prescribed campaign venue for Mundubile, revealed no presence of his supporters apart from several plain-clothed and uniformed police officers keeping vigil, while several others were found seated under an acacia tree outside Libuyu Police Station.

News had earlier spread that Mundubile was scheduled to attend a priest ordination function at Christ the King Catholic Church at St Mary’s Secondary School and then hold a rally at Libuyu Grounds.

However, at the Catholic Church ordination function, which ended after 13:00 hours, there was no presence of the NRPUP apart from UPND’s Maramba Constituency parliamentary candidate Yvonne Kabba.

President Hakainde Hichilema has since ordered UPND cadres not to harass Mundubile during his tour of the predominantly UPND stronghold.

But when contacted, Southern Province NRPUP Chairperson Omar Munsanje appealed to Livingstone residents to be patient and ready, adding that they would be notified when everything was ready.

“He is coming, we are just sorting one or two issues in the party,” Munsanje said.

Asked if his failure to be in Livingstone on Saturday would affect his campaign programming schedule, Munsanje said the schedule puts Mundubile in Southern Province from the 7th to 12th August.

“We have planned it the way that it will be handled nicely. So basically, we can assure Livingstone residents that he is coming. So let’s people just be ready. Immediately everything is in place, we are going to alert everybody,” said Munsanje.

But Mundubile’s Southern Province Presidential Campaign Chairperson Ronnie Jere said the NRPUP Presidential candidate may not visit Livingstone.

“I will update you. We have some security issues that the team is sorting out. He may not come,” said Jere.
