People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) President, Andyford Mayele Banda has strongly condemned the disruption of President Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu’s peaceful roadshow which was conducted according to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) timetable.
Banda has advised the Zambia Police to demonstrate restraint and allow the campaign to continue without unnecessary disruptions.
“As a People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) we strongly condemn the police’s disruption of President Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu’s peaceful roadshow in Kalingalinga,” he said.
“Already we do know that the campaign timetable released by ECZ was meant to slow down the momentum of the BM8 campaign, however the team did not protest and continued as per ECZ guidance. Now to have the same timetable which has been followed without protest to be stopped by the police is unfortunate,” Banda said.
The PAC President further said; “We strongly urge the Police to allow the will of the people to take center stage as opposed to politicians. We also wish to advise the Police to allow the campaigns to continue as there is no time to halt the campaigns as that will disadvantage other candidates especially the front runner President Brian Mundubile”.
Meanwhile, Banda has called on all institutions involved in the electoral process to apply the law equally without disadvantaging any candidates.
“Let our democracy flourish even under these difficult circumstances and the will of the people prevail.
We further urge all supporters of the BM8 and MZ campaign to attend the rally in Matero in numbers and continue being peaceful as demonstrated throughout this campaign period,” he added.
