MWANDI CONSTITUENCY ELECTIONS PETITIONED!

UPND Mwandi Constituency losing Candidate Sibeso Sefulo has petitioned the election of Iris Kaingu in the Lusaka High Court.

Mr. Sefulo has argued that the elections were characterized by bribery, corruption and undue influence of voters by election agents of Ms. Kaingu with her full knowledge, consent and approval.

He has further argued that the Electoral Commission of Zambia(ECZ) failed to comply with the provisions of the Act, relating to the conduct of elections, as the Presiding Officers failed to supervise the proper counting and announcing of the election results in accordance with the laid down procedures.

Mr. Sefulo also claimed that the election in most Polling Stations were conducted in breach of the principles of secrecy and against a person's right to vote, in that the Presiding Officers cast votes on behalf of elderly voters contrary to the wishes of those voters.

Mr. Sefulo has asked the Court to nullify the election of Ms. Kaingu as Member of Parliament for Mwandi Constituency and order that fresh elections be held.
