NRP-UP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has confirmed that he is currently being interrogated by officers from the Zambia Army over two videos he released earlier today.

Mundubile made the disclosure in an urgent statement posted on his Facebook page tonight, following conflicting reports about his whereabouts.

“Just to confirm that I am being interrogated by officers from the Zambia Army over the two videos I released earlier today,” Mundubile said.

He appealed for calm among his supporters as the interrogation continues.

“I appeal for calm from all our supporters as we allow the due process to proceed,” he said.

The confirmation follows a statement by his running mate, Makebi Zulu, who earlier alleged that Mundubile and his family had been picked up from his residence in Kabulonga by military and other security personnel.

The development also follows Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana’s visit to Ibex Hill Police Station, where he dismissed reports that Mundubile was being held there and said a video circulating of Mundubile at the police station was from an earlier detention.

Mundubile’s latest statement now confirms that he is in the custody or presence of Army officers, although he does not state where he is being interrogated.

He says the questioning relates specifically to two videos he released earlier today.

The development comes amid heightened political tensions following Thursday’s general election and growing concerns from the opposition over the handling of its campaign officials and supporters.

Mundubile has now urged his supporters to remain calm and allow the process to take its course.
