Mongu Municipal Council has awarded a 40 percent discount to property rate payers for all outstanding bills accumulating to 2026.

Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Abigail Sitenge, says this is in line with the Presidential pronouncement and remission on property rates contained in circular No. MLGRD/101/13/1 dated 17th March, 2026.

She urged all ratepayers to take advantage of the remission and ensure that all outstanding arrears are cleared before 31st December, 2026.

Ms Sitenge said the Government recognizes that property rates remain a critical source of revenue for local authorities by enabling councils to provide essential services to communities.

“We are therefore committed to ensure that we strike a balance between ensuring reasonable charges for ratepayers and maintaining the Council’s financial sustainability,” she said.

She said the discount supersedes any earlier remission granted further stating that for any more information, the public is advised to visit the Valuation Section under Finance department at the Civic Centre in Mongu.
