Government has commended the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) for its continued commitment in championing girls education in the country.

Kaoma District Education Office’s Guidance and Counseling Coordinator, Chitanjika Luneta disclosed that CAMFED has greatly improved the learning outcomes of pupils in the district through various interventions such as the Learner Guide and ‘My Better World’ programmes among others.

Mr Luneta noted that apart from the school support programme to the beneficiaries, CAMFED through the Learner Guide and ‘My Better World’ programme is offering psychosocial support to secondary school pupils which has ended school dropouts and pregnancies among learners in the district.

Mr Luneta was speaking during the five-days learner guide training and review meeting held at Kaoma Secondary School.

“CAMFED has been implementing a learner guide programme in schools for some time now. They are also offering psychosocial support, they are also offering many programmes that are helping our learners to stay in school, in short CAMFED is looking at the progression of girls and boys from form 1 up to form 4,” Mr Luneta said.

“Through the My better World programme, pregnancies have reduced, the school dropouts as we’re talking right now, zero for Kaoma and we’re saying kudos to CAMFED because they are helping, we have seen the successes”, he noted.

CAMFED District Programme Officer for Lukulu and Mitete, Mario Ngambo said the programme was meant to review both successes and challenges being offered in schools especially on ‘My Better World’ programme as well as training new learner guides on the same.

She noted that the programme attracted 120 participants from five districts which include Kaoma, Lukulu, Mitete, Luampa and Nkeyema, adding that the interventions have been implemented for a longer period of time in the province.

“Two programmes taking place here, learner guide review meeting and learner guides training. We have 120 participants for the learner guide programme, 60 have come for review meeting, 60 have come for learner guide training. These participants are from different districts namely Lukulu, Mitete, Kaoma, Nkeyema and Luampa,” said Ms Mario.

The participants thanked CAMFED for the training and empowering them in various ways.
