LUSAKA CENTRAL: FORMAL REQUEST FOR INDEPENDENT VERIFICATION AND RECOUNT
On 14 August 2026, I formally wrote to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) requesting the suspension of the declaration of the Lusaka Central Constituency parliamentary result pending independent verification and a recount.
The letter raises serious concerns about the voting and counting process on 13 August 2026, including alleged intimidation of polling agents and monitors, irregularities involving GEN 20 forms, the exclusion of accredited agents from certain processes, and other matters that require urgent investigation.
I have called upon the ECZ to ensure that:
• An independent recount and scrutiny are conducted in the affected polling streams.
• All GEN 20 forms for Lusaka Central are reviewed and verified.
• Ballot papers, ballot boxes, seals, and available CCTV and security footage are preserved.
• Allegations of intimidation and the presence of unauthorised persons at polling stations are investigated.
• All concerns regarding the validity and identification of GEN 20 forms are addressed.
This is not about refusing the will of the people. It is about protecting the integrity of that will.
Every vote matters. Every vote must be properly counted. Every voter deserves confidence that the result reflects their will.
I have therefore formally requested transparency, accountability, and an independently verifiable process before the Lusaka Central result is declared.
We owe the people of Lusaka Central nothing less.
