 Rivers of Living Water Mission, a Faith-Based Organisation (FBO), in partnership with Vitamin Angels, a public health non-profit organisation, has donated essential micronutrient supplements in Chitambo District in Central Province.

The donation includes 200,000 International Units of Vitamin A for children aged 12 to 59 months, 100,000 International Units of Vitamin A for children aged 6 to 11 months and deworming tablets for children aged 12 to 59 months.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Chitambo, Rivers of Living Water Mission Founder Chisenga Kunda said the donation is aimed at addressing micronutrient deficiencies targeting 6,000 children under the age of five.

ZANIS reports that Pastor Kunda reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting child health interventions in the district.

“This is not a one-off gesture. It is an ongoing relationship with Chitambo District,” he said.

Receiving the donation, District Administrative Officer Charles Anderson described the gesture as a timely intervention that will go a long way in improving the health and welfare of children under the age of five.

Mr Anderson noted that the donation will complement the Government’s efforts to strengthen child health services in the district.

He appealed to Rivers of Living Water Mission and Vitamin Angels to sustain the partnership and continue supporting child health programmes in the district.

Meanwhile, Chitambo District acting Clinical Officer Thomas Chanda observed that micronutrient deficiencies remain a serious public health challenge, particularly among children under five.

Mr Chanda said micronutrient deficiencies can lead to impaired growth, weakened immune systems and increased vulnerability to illnesses.

He thanked Rivers of Living Water Mission and Vitamin Angels for the support and assured that the supplements will be distributed efficiently to ensure that they reach the intended beneficiaries.
