Lusaka-based lawyer and independent mayoral candidate Simon Mwila Mulenga has expressed gratitude to residents of the capital city following the conclusion of the 2026 General Elections, saying his desire to serve the people of Lusaka remains unchanged despite the outcome.

In a heartfelt message shared after the election, Mulenga thanked the thousands of residents who welcomed him into their homes, markets and communities during his campaign.

The legal practitioner, who contested the Lusaka mayoral election as an independent candidate, also extended his appreciation to everyone who supported his campaign and placed their confidence in his vision for the city.

“My heart is full of gratitude to the wonderful people of Lusaka who welcomed me into their homes, markets and communities throughout this journey,” Mulenga said.

The lawyer specifically acknowledged the people who voted for him, as well as those who offered encouragement throughout the campaign.
“To everyone who voted for me, supported me, encouraged me and believed in this independent campaign, thank you,” he wrote.

Mulenga also paid tribute to his campaign team, family and friends, whom he described as an important part of his political journey.

He said their dedication and unwavering support helped him navigate the challenges that come with participating in a highly competitive election.

“To my campaign team, my family and friends who stood with me through the long days and nights, I will forever be grateful,” he stated.

Although he admitted that he had hoped for a different outcome, Mulenga emphasized that he respects the decision made by voters.

He said democracy must always be respected and acknowledged that the people of Lusaka had spoken through the ballot box.

“Of course, we would have loved a different result, but the people have spoken and we respect their decision,” he said.

Mulenga added that he remains proud of the campaign he and his team conducted, noting that it was peaceful and driven by a genuine desire to serve.

“I gave this campaign everything I had, and I am proud that we ran a peaceful and spirited campaign,” he said.

The lawyer’s message has attracted praise on social media, with many people commending him for accepting the election outcome with humility and maturity.

His decision to contest the Lusaka mayoral seat as an independent candidate also generated significant public interest during the campaign period, with many observers describing his candidacy as a demonstration of growing political diversity in the capital.

Despite falling short in the election, Mulenga made it clear that his commitment to public service remains intact.

“This chapter may have ended differently from what we all hoped, but my desire to serve our people has not ended,” he said.

“God’s time is always the best. We try again next time,” Mulenga wrote.

He concluded his message by once again thanking the people of Lusaka for the support they extended to him throughout the campaign.
