The Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana has acknowledged the crucial role in ensuring the smooth and timely processing of human resource cases within government institutions emphasising that it’s a duty that directly impacts the efficiency of public service.

Speaking during the official swearing in ceremony of the Human Resource Management Committee (HRMC), a vital body established under the Service Commissions Act of 2016.

The Ministry of Information and Media, Human Resource and Administration Director, Lazarus Mulenda and Internal Auditor Christine Kabwe were sworn in as Chairperson and member of the HRMC respectively.

Mr Kawana further emphasised the importance of their roles, noting that a professional and motivated civil service, coupled with prompt handling of personal matters such as staff confirmations, promotions, and separations are key components of President Hakainde Hichilema’s “Grow Zambia” agenda.

The Permanent Secretary further reminded the newly sworn in members that their work is vital not only for internal operations but also for motivating staff and ensuring the government’s policies reached the public effectively.

He explained that, according to the law, such appointments are made by the Civil Service Commission, but the swearing-in ceremony was delegated to responsible officers.

He also assured that the ceremony symbolised their official assumption of duty and the trust placed in them to serve with integrity and confidentiality.
