Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa has called on senior public servants to uphold professionalism, accountability and integrity while accelerating the implementation of government policies.

Mr Kangwa charged that public confidence in government depends not only on sound policies but also on professionalism, accountability, transparency and prudent management of public resources by public servants.

“Public confidence in government depends not only on the policies we formulate, but equally on the integrity, efficiency and transparency with which we implement them,” said Mr Kangwa.

The Secretary was speaking today at the Seventh Senior Public Service Management meeting held under the theme: “Economic Growth and Future Prospects for Our Country,” in Lusaka.

He noted that the theme was both timely and relevant, reminding public workers that sustainable economic growth is not an end in itself, but a means of improving the lives of citizens.

“Through employment creation, poverty reduction and enhanced public service delivery,” he added.

The Secretary to the Cabinet explained that sustainable economic growth must translate into improved livelihoods through job creation, poverty reduction and efficient public service delivery.

Mr Kangwa said the government’s macroeconomic reforms implemented over the past five years have strengthened economic growth, reduced inflation, restored investor confidence and enhanced the country’s investment climate through prudent fiscal management and structural reforms.

He said balanced regional development remains a key priority, noting that while mining continues to be a major pillar of the economy, sectors such as agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, energy and fisheries offer significant opportunities for economic diversification and inclusive growth across all provinces.

He identified climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy expansion, value addition in mining, tourism diversification, digital transformation and human capital development as critical priorities for sustaining Zambia’s economic growth.

He also appealed to Zambians to maintain peace before, during and after the forthcoming general elections, stressing that elections should unite rather than divide the nation.

Paying tribute to the late southern Province Permanent Secretary Namani Monze, who died on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Mr Kangwa described Dr. Monze as a dedicated public servant whose career spanned more than two decades in the health sector and public administration.

He narrated that Dr. Monze served as a Resident Doctor, Senior Registrar, Medical Superintendent, Senior Medical Superintendent, Provincial Health Officer and later Acting Permanent Secretary before being confirmed as Permanent Secretary for Southern Province in 2021.

Mr Kangwa noted that Dr. Monze’s professionalism, humility and inclusive leadership earned him respect across government and that his passing is a great loss to the public service and the nation at large.
