The construction of Katibunga Boarding Secondary School which was funded by the European Union at a cost of K83 million is complete.

The development has elated Muchinga Province Education Officer Alexander Mulenga, who toured the school to inspect the project to assess the quality of the works.

Mr Mulenga expressed satisfaction with the quality standard or workmanship exhibited by the contractor.

The provincial education officer said the new school is expected to significantly improve access to quality education and bring lasting benefits to surrounding communities.

He disclosed that his office was conducting a tour of duty to inspect newly completed education infrastructure across the province, including Katibunga Boarding Secondary School, which was funded by the European Union (EU).

Mr Mulenga has since praised Shahnai Construction Company Limited for delivering quality work that would stand the test of time.

“The construction of Katibunga Boarding Secondary School has been executed to a high standard by Shahnai Construction Company Limited,” he said.

Mr Mulenga added that the school will mark a major milestone for Katibunga Community and Mpika District as a whole, as it would expand access to secondary education and provide a conducive learning environment for learners.

He further urged the community to safeguard the facility once it became operational, saying its longevity would depend on proper maintenance by its beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, Mpika District Commissioner David Siame said the new school would help decongest existing secondary schools in the district.

Mr Siame noted that once operational, the school would reduce the distance learners cover from the Katibunga area, many of whom currently travel more than 45 kilometres to attend Mpika Boarding Secondary School and other learning institutions.

He said the boarding facility would particularly benefit girls, who often faced greater safety and access challenges when travelling long distances to school

Mr Siame also commended the European Union and other cooperating partners for their continued support towards the education sector in Zambia.

And a parent from the Katibunga community, Paul Bwalya, commended the Government for constructing the school, describing the project as a significant step towards improving access to education and accelerating development in the area.

“The investment pumped into the construction of Katibunga Boarding Secondary School is remarkable and encouraging. It will transform the lives of our children and the entire community,” Mr Bwalya said.
