According to the latest official government report, the manufacturing sector contributed 9.3 or 10% towards the GDP in the year 2025.
This is below the targeted reach of 36.12% as set according to Vision 2030, accessed by the Zambian Business Times – ZBT.
It further indicates on the target of increasing manufacturers exports as a share of merchandize exports to 71 percent by 2038. At the same time, the report indicates the country attaining or developing a fully integrated rural based and light manufacturing by the year 2030.
According to information gathered by the ZBT, the manufacturing industry continues to face several challenges especially in the rural areas, the lack of electricity, and poor road networks being key challenges. Generally, the lack of finance for local manufacturers and start ups is one key challenge that has deeply affected the growth of the industry, as well heavy taxes and licensing.
