Purpose of the role: The HV / Auto-Electrical Technician will perform diagnostics, inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, commissioning support, and electrical system verification on Hitachi EH4000 Dump Trucks and EX5600 Hydraulic Excavators within the workshop environment. The role ensures all electrical, electronic, control, monitoring, communication, and High Voltage (HV) systems are maintained in accordance with HCMZ standards, OEM specifications, and safety requirements to maximize equipment reliability, availability, and performance. Key Duties and Responsibilities: The HV / Auto-Electrical Technician will be required to perform the following tasks: 1. Electrical Diagnostics & Troubleshooting Diagnose electrical, electronic, and control system faults using OEM diagnostic tools. Interpret fault codes, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals. Troubleshoot CANBUS communication, monitoring, controller, and sensor-related issues. Conduct root cause analysis of recurring electrical faults. 2. High Voltage System Maintenance Inspect, maintain, and repair High Voltage systems on EH4000AC Dump Trucks. Perform HV isolation procedures and verification testing. Inspect HV cables, propulsion systems, inverters, alternators, and electrical protection systems. Support commissioning and validation of repaired HV components. 3. Electrical Repairs & Component Replacement Repair and replace electrical harnesses, sensors, relays, controllers, displays, and switches. Perform charging system and battery system maintenance. Conduct functional testing after repairs. Verify correct operation before equipment release. 4. Preventative Maintenance Conduct scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance activities. Complete OEM electrical service programs and campaigns. Monitor machine electrical system condition and performance. Verify machine readiness following maintenance activities. 5. Electronic Control Systems Support machine monitoring and control systems. Calibrate electrical and electronic components. Assist with controller setup, software verification, and parameter checks. Maintain electronic systems according to OEM requirements. 6. Safety, Health & Environment Follow all HV safety requirements and electrical safe work procedures. Conduct risk assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA). Apply Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures during electrical work. Maintain compliance with HCMZ, OEM, and statutory safety standards. 7. Documentation & Reporting Complete work orders, inspection reports, and repair documentation. Record diagnostic findings, repairs, and component replacements Update maintenance systems accurately. Maintain complete and audit-ready maintenance records. 8. Continuous Improvement Support equipment reliability improvement initiatives. Participate in root cause failure investigations. Recommend improvements to electrical maintenance processes. Participate in OEM technical and safety training programs. 9. Qualifications & Experience Must have a full Grade 12 Certificate Must possess an Advanced Certificate in Auto Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Electrical Systems, or related discipline Diploma in Electrical Engineering will be an added advantage High Voltage certification or relevant electrical safety training will be an added advantage Must have a minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in heavy equipment electrical maintenance and repairs Must have experience diagnosing electrical and electronic faults on heavy equipment Must be able to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams Experience on Hitachi EH4000AC Dump Trucks and EX5600 Excavators will be a distinct advantage Valid and unendorsed manual driver’s license 10.
