Hichilema warns Southern Province residents against disrupting Mundubile’s rallies
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has urged residents of Southern Province not to disrupt rallies by NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile as he takes his campaign trail to the province.

In a statement issued by State House chief communications specialist Clayson Hamasaka, President Hichilema stated that residents of the province must let the opposition conduct their political campaigns peacefully, responsibly and with mutual respect.
The Head of State said democracy thrives when competing ideas are freely debated, citizens are persuaded rather than intimidated and all political parties are given an equal opportunity to seek the support of the people.

“Those with whom we politically disagree remain our fellow citizens. They enjoy the same democratic right to campaign, assemble and canvass for votes as every other political party. Their lawful political activities must not be obstructed or disrupted,” Hamasaka quoted President Hichilema as saying.

The President said Zambia’s democracy is tested not only by how citizens treat those they agree with, but more importantly, by how they accommodate those with whom they disagree.
He said the political contest should be centred on ideas, policies and the future of the country rather than confrontation, intimidation or violence.

President Hichilema further reminded citizens that Zambia belongs to everyone and that peace and national unity should always take precedence over political differences.

He has since called on all Zambians, regardless of their political affiliation to uphold the values that have long defined the country.
“Let democracy prevail. Let peace prevail. Let Zambia remain united,” he said.
