PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema on Thursday recalled the 2021 attacks in the Mawondo area and urged residents of Sesheke to vote for the UPND in the Aug. 13, 2026 general elections to “continue protecting the gains Zambia has made this far.”

The Head of State said the country had “flipped the page” on past political violence. “So much to say about Sesheke in Western Province and events before the 2021 elections but as a Country we flipped the page and said NO to such behaviours by those who tormented others. Sesheke voted for us. Zambia voted for us. And we will continue delivering for Zambia,” he said. The President said the response to the difficult period should be delivery of development, citing free education, more jobs, business opportunities, skills training and infrastructure projects. He specifically mentioned the planned Livingstone-Kazungula-Sesheke road, as well as works on urban and rural roads “being implemented countrywide.” “Sichaba sa Sesheke in Western Province, thank you very much for coming in unprecedented numbers to our meeting today,” Hichilema said. “Now, come August 13th, 2026, go and vote for us so that together we can continue protecting the gains Zambia has made this far.
