In a national address, Mr. Hichilema said his administration does not take the decision to return it to office for granted and that government’s obligation is to “return the favour by serving Zambians better.”
He stressed there would be no discrimination based on how people voted.
“There is no discriminatory understanding of who voted for us and who did not. Those who voted for us are not favoured, and those who did not vote for us are not discriminated against,” he said.
Citing achievements since 2021, the President pointed to free education, increased Constituency Development Fund allocations, lower pupil-teacher ratios, and the restoration of university meal allowances. He also said the government is saving $1.9 billion annually from debt service, funds now redirected to education and social programmes including the payment of examination fees.
“My family is no longer just the HH family. It is the extended family, the 21 million Zambians who have entrusted us with this responsibility,” Mr. Hichilema said.
He thanked both supporters and opponents, adding that his administration will work daily to earn the confidence of all citizens.
