PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema pledged Tuesday to continue serving as a “servant President” for all Zambians, calling for unity and hard work as his administration begins a second term.

Speaking after being sworn in at National Heroes Stadium, Hichilema urged citizens of all political affiliations, religions, ethnicities, genders and social backgrounds to join in building the country. “Only with hard and smart work can we create jobs,” Hichilema said. “The old, the differently abled, the young, the retired and the vulnerable all matter. Hard and smart work is essential for a united, peaceful, inclusive and prosperous Zambia.” “Above all, let us remain one Zambia, one nation and one people,” he said. The President said his administration’s purpose is to uplift lives and improve the well-being of every Zambian. “We pledge to serve you with integrity and accountability, as we did in our first term,” he said. “I am sure the taste of the pudding is in the eating; the examples are abound out there in what we did in the last five years. We will soar on this trajectory and do even better.” Hichilema said he would lead a government in which every voice matters and development reaches all communities. “And so, I make this pledge to you personally: I will continue to be a servant President for all the people of Zambia,” he said.
