President Hakainde Hichilema has pledged to serve all Zambians equally, regardless of how they voted, following his inauguration for a second term as President of the Republic of Zambia.

President Hichilema took the oath of office on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, before Almighty God and the people of Zambia, officially beginning his second term in office.

In a message to citizens following his presidential inauguration, Hichilema said he received the responsibility of serving the country with gratitude and a clear understanding that leadership was not a prize but a sacred duty to serve.

“To those who voted for us, we thank you for your trust and confidence. To those who did not vote for us, we respect your democratic choice,” President Hichilema said.

He pledged that his government would serve all citizens on an equal basis and without discrimination, regardless of their political choices.

Hichilema said all Zambians were entitled to the same dignity, opportunities and services from Government, stressing that although citizens may have different political choices, their country and destiny remained one.

“The elections are behind us; the work of building Zambia continues,” he said.

The President said his first term was focused on restoring stability and laying the foundation for the country, while his second term would focus on growing the Zambian economy, creating jobs and opportunities, strengthening communities and ensuring that development reaches every household.

He also called on citizens to play an active role in the development of the country, saying Government could not build Zambia alone.

According to Hichilema, citizens must work hard and smart, increase local production, expand exports, support businesses and investment, and develop a culture of productivity and self-reliance.

“Zambia must increasingly stand on the strength of its own people and resources,” he said.
The President also reassured Zambia’s international partners that the country would remain a peaceful, democratic and sovereign nation committed to stability, trade and investment.

Hichilema said his administration’s pledge to Zambians was to serve, listen and work towards delivering a more prosperous, united and resilient Zambia.

“With confidence in ourselves and faith in one another, let us get to work,” he said.
He concluded his message with the national motto, “One Zambia, One Nation, One People,” and called for continued faith in the country and its people.
