PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has pledged to upgrade the Landless Corner–Mumbwa road to bituminous standard and announced that US$550 million was saved through the renegotiation of the Lusaka–Ndola dual carriageway project.

Speaking during an inspection of the Lusaka–Ndola dual carriageway in Central Province, the President engaged residents at 15 Miles, 22 Miles, Liteta, Chibombo, and Landless Corner.

Hichilema said the highway was initially quoted at over US$1 billion but was restructured under a Public-Private Partnership to US$650 million. He said the new arrangement shifts financial responsibility to concession partners and reduces pressure on the public treasury.

At Landless Corner, the President assured residents that the Landless Corner–Mumbwa road project would prioritize recruitment of local workers to stimulate the local economy.

He also directed that four volunteer nurses in the crowd be recruited into the civil service.

The President interacted with workers on the Lusaka–Ndola dual carriageway, commending their efforts and assuring them of continued government support.

On agriculture, Hichilema announced that maize depots will soon open. He said government purchasing mechanisms have been redesigned to ensure farmers are paid promptly, ending long queues and delayed payments seen in previous marketing seasons.

The President urged residents across Central Province to vote for the United Party for National Development in all categories in the upcoming general elections, from the presidency to local government.
