President Hakainde Hichilema has pledged to provide safer water vessels to the people of Samfya district which will improve water transport to islands across Lake Bangweulu in Luapula province.

The President noted that there have been too many accidents in the past owing to the lack of safer vessels to transport people across the lake to places such as Lunga District.

The Head of State was speaking during a community engagement held at Samfya primary school grounds in Samfya district today.

“It is my concern that there have been too many accidents and people’s lives have been endangered for too long and now once re-elected we shall bring Barges to avert these unfortunate events,” he said.

That President Hichilema indicated that it is the priority for the United Party National Development (UPND) to work on the Tuta road which he said was in a deplorable state.

Meanwhile President Hichilema has pledged to spearhead the construction of Samfya-Chinsanka-Mpata Road and build a tarred road running from Samfya to Chifunabuli district.

“Following the restructuring of the debt, many projects will be undertaken under the UPND which includes construction of roads and other infrastructure,” President Hichilema added.

The head of State further announced plans to upgrade Samfya District Hospital to a high-level facility in order to improve health care in the district.

President Hichilema also announced plans to employ more health workers across the country to enhance service delivery in the health sector.

Speaking at the same meeting, UPND Bangweulu Constituency aspiring candidate, Happy Mampa commended the Head of State for the various developmental projects that have taken place in the area under the UPND administration.
